The ancient fishing village of Calpe is a fusion of old Valencian culture and modern amenities. The town's architecture spans back to the Romans, Christians and Moors. Calpe was a favourite summer haunt of Ernest Hemingway. Holidays in Calpe feature an ancient quarter, with old town walls, the gothic Iglesia Vieja church, pretty squares, and an old fishing port. Also worth a visit are the Museum of Archaeology and the Fiestas Museum.
Juxtaposed against this is the modern marina offering boat rides to Benidorm, glass-bottom boat rides, water skiing and windsurfing. Holidays in Calpe offer beautiful sandy beaches and boast three of the best beaches on this stretch of coast. The beaches have been award EU blue flags and are popular with families for there soft sand and clean waters. The beach is also unique for its Roman villa, which, it is thought, was once a fish farm.
One of the best ways to explore this stretch of coast is by hopping on the train that runs from Alicante, through Calpe, to Denia. Holidays in Calpe are overlooked by the dramatic Rock of Ifach, which measures 332 metres in height and affords stunning coastal views. The more adventurous tourists can actually climb the rock face. Ifach is also surrounded by a nature reserve, perfect for hiking and biking.
