Located near the centre of Corfu Island, Benitses is 7.5 miles, (12 kilometres) south of Corfu Town. Holidays in Benitses combine whitewashed houses, hanging flowers, olive trees and natural springs set against a backdrop of lush green mountains. Benitses has grown from a small fishing village into a popular tourist resort, but has managed to retain its traditional characteristics. It still features a working harbour with local fishermen.
The crystal clear waters of the Ionian Sea draw visitors to the beautiful beaches, which have been awarded the EUR Blue Flag. The beaches are a mix of sand, shingle and pebbles. Points of interest include the Roman baths, ruins of ancient courtyards dating back to the third century, and the Shell Museum, which displays 10,000 shells from the mysterious underwater world.
Visitors can also take boat trips around the bay, explore the island's capital - Corfu Town, or venture a further a field to Pontikonisi and Achillion Palace. Evenings are spent enjoying traditional folk songs, and tucking in to typical Greek cuisine in local tavernas. There are also a few beach bars serving a good selection of drinks and cocktails. The atmosphere in Benitses is relatively quiet and appeals largely to couples.
